Source licences

Every fact on auscyclopedia carries the licence of its underlying source. That licence travels with the fact wherever it appears.

Most Australian open data is published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 or CC BY-SA 4.0. Some material is Crown Copyright with specific reuse terms. A small number of sources are licence-restricted (for example, paywalled news archives) and are cited but not reproduced.

aus-brain is still being wired up to its sources. The full registry will appear here as each source comes online. Until then, this is a list of the source categories we expect to draw on, with their typical licences.

Map geometry

Template state and territory boundaries on this site are derived from the Code for America "Click That Hood" dataset (MIT licence; data sourced from CartoDB Common Data). The production map pipeline will switch to ABS ASGS boundaries (Crown Copyright, CC BY 4.0).

Per-fact licence display

Once findings are live, every rendered fact will show its source licence inline. When reusing a fact independently, the licence shown on the page is the licence that applies.
